Well, today was definately a good/concerned type of day.
The day started off pretty good. His "sitter" as they call it, is a big guy... bigger than lee with a shaved head, named Joe. He has been one of Lee's attendant... i think he's actually a nurses aid.... when he was on the 5th floor. He offered to shaved lee's head once when he was in for a chemo treatment. Lee says he's gonna have him shave his head tomorrow. I'm wondering if he'll actually do it. He has before. I thought he looked pretty sexy bald. He doesn't have much hair anyway. lol. Anyway... Joe is a great guy. His nurse informed us that they would take his cathater out today.... I thought Lee would be thrilled!!!!!! He was somewhat hesitant. They were going to do it in the afternoon, but Lee said he didn't want to. He had such trama and pain when they inserted it, that I know he was very leary of that. Then he said he wanted to put it off until the night shift came in. When I returned at 6, he informed me they were going to wait till tomorrow. We went on outside for awhile, and deceided to return to Lee's room, get him washed and ready for bed. Plus, when we were outside, Lee said he was starving!!!!! That was good to hear. Anyway... we came in and told his nurse that we were gonna wash him up and could he get something to eat. She came in a little later and told lee that she's pull his cathater, then he could wash up, and then she'd get him something to eat. I tried to tell him..... several times before, that I knew he wasn't looking forward to it, but that I knew he would have to be more comfortable and sleep better if he had it out.....and just told him to get it over with. Well, he fiiiiiiinally agreed and it is out......plus he got some chicken noodle soup....!!!!!
The gal bladder enzymes have gone down, so they decided not to do the ultra sound. They decided to do a chest xray instead.... silly me, I never did ask why. They seem to have become routine. Guess I better find out tomorrow. No dialysis today either.... yippppppppeeeeeeeee.... guess that means the kidney is getting better too.
I do want you to continue to remember him though. We have had a terrible time with his blood sugar today. Lee is also diabetic. It has been high ever since he came from ICU. But today.... it went to 600. They gave him some insulin and As of about 6, it had gone down to 577.... some, but not enough. They gave him two more shots... two different kinds of insulin. When they tried to test it again at about 9.... all the glucose meter would say was HIGH.... which isn't good. That means it was back to at least 600 or over. At about 9:30 or so, he was given two more shots of insulin. Please pray that they can get this sugar level to come down. This high is not good at all.........plus is is very hard/damaging to his kidney, and it is already taking long enough to heal. We don't need any setbacks in that. I just pray that when I get there tomorrow, it has come down considerably.
Lee was a little tired and not feeling really up to par due to his sugar being so high, but all in all he had a pretty good day. We had a nice visit with out oldest son, sitting outside on the garden patio that I told you about. Lee got his insulin.... his pee pee hose taken out(lol).... hot soup..... a nice warm sponge bath, and neetly tucked in and ready for nighty nite, when I left him a little after 10. He was already sleeping like a baby. Just pray that they can get these sugar levels dropped.
I'll let you know more tomorrow.
Love,
lev
